The girls cheer and pom at the HAYAA Football games every Saturday. All of our HOME games are played at "The Little BIG House" which is located behind the Hartland Education Center Building or better known as our "Old" High School Stadium. Game Day is every Saturday Starting Labor Day weekend thru October.  Generally half your games will be "home"  and the other half will be away. There are 11 groups in our league. They are: Milford, Lakeland, South Lyon, Howell, Fowlerville, Webberville, Hamburg, Whitmore Lake, Brighton and Byron (and Hartland). So some travel is involved.

The age groups for the cheer/pom are normally split up as follows:

  • Mascot - 1st  grade ( To have a Mascot Team there need to be a Coach and enough girls to form a team)
  • Instructional -  2nd graders
  • Freshman - 3rd and 4th graders
  • Junior Varsity - 5th and 6th graders
  • Varsity - 7th and 8th graders (Can also "tryout" for basketball season at Ore Creek Middle School. This is not part of HAYAA.)

Game Times: Game time vary by age, league playing at and sometimes weather. Normally the younger groups go first in the day, say a start time of 9:00 or 10:00 am. The varsity level could start as early as 4:00pm, and possibly as late as 9:00pm. There are seven games played every Saturday at our “Home field” so game times can vary.  Games after dark are played with field lights on.  Maps are available for all the away fields.

Practices: Practices will begin the first week in August. Varsity, JV and Freshman can practice up to 15 hour a week, Monday thru Saturday, before school starts.  Once school starts theses teams will practice up to 6 hours a week.  Mascots and instructional can only practice 6 hour a week in August and when school starts. Also there could be an extra practice the week before Invitational. Practices are mandatory, this is a team sport and many of the items learned require all the girls to be present. Please discuss any conflicts you may have with your coach prior to the season starting. Most practices are outside, once the weather changes they sometimes move inside one of the school gyms.

Teams: Currently all of the Hartland teams are both a Cheer and a Pom squad or a “DUO”, At the Cheer portion of the practice your daughter will concentrate mostly on Cheers and Chants. Tumbling, Gymnastics and Stunting may also be a part of the girl’s routines.   Also, during 1/2 time, their team will perform a longer more developed Cheer. During Pom practices they will concentrate on a 1/2 time routine dance for at the games and Invitational performance.  Once you are placed on a team that is you’re "Color" for the remainder of your HAYAA Career. ALL New players will be placed on a team by a "draft" before the season begins.

Pom Extravaganza – For the last two years our Hartland High school along with the HAYAA Cheer/pom program has participated in our very own Pom Extravaganza.  This is usually held on A Sunday a week or two before festival and it is a mandatory performance for ALL of HAYAA teams.  This event is where our teams can showcase what there have learned to all of our HARTLAND FANS.  Also during this event is where the Mascots perform what their have learned this year.

Invitational - Currently our Livingston County League hosts a Festival/Competition each year. The hosting of this event rotated among all the leagues in our group. This gives the girls an Varsity, Jv & Freshman a chance to compete with other teams in the surrounding communities. Instructional level also attends Invitational, performs their routine and receives a participation medal.  Hartland hosted this event in 2004 at the New Hartland High School. It generated a lot of fun and funds for our program.

Operating Board - Our program is managed by an operating board consisting of: Blue Commissioner, Black Commissioner Gold Commissioner White Commissioner, Secretary, Treasurer, Merchandise Manager and a Equipment Manager. Other non-voting positions can be added to assist with current program needs. Elections can be held if more than one person would like a certain board position. We are always in need of volunteers’, if you would like to help with the running of our program please contact a current Board Member.

Coaching Staff - Each team has a Head Coach, assistant coaches High School Cheer and Pom members and a Team Mom and or Dad.   All coaches must apply for any coaching position and be approved through the HAYAA Cheer/Pom Board. The coaching staff is also monitored and mentored by each Color Commissioner.   If you are interested in coaching a HAYAA team please contact the Secretary for an appointment, we start to interview for coaching positions in February

Volunteer - Other volunteers are needed to assist with 50/50 raffle and Cheer/Pom merchandise at every home game. Each family is required to work up to 4 volunteer shifts per child. Other areas of assistance would include: helping with our uniforms, special day events, retail and other miscellaneous projects. This program is operated totally with volunteers! So if you have the time please get involved
