The girls Cheer and Pom at the HAYAA Football games every Saturday. All of our HOME games are played at "The Little Big House" which is located behind the Hartland Education Center Building or better known as our "Old" High School Stadium. Game Day is every Saturday starting Labor Day weekend thru October. Generally half of the games will be "home" and the other half will be away. There are 11 groups in our league: Brighton, Byron, Fowlerville, Hamburg, Hartland, Howell, Lakeland, Milford, South Lyon, Webberville, Whitmore Lake, so some travel is involved.
The age groups for Cheer/Pom are normally split up as follows:
Instructional - 1st and 2nd grade
Freshman - 3rd and 4th grade
Junior Varsity - 5th and 6th grade
Varsity - 7th and 8th grade."Tryouts" for Pom and Competitive Cheer during the basketball season are also available at Ore Creek Middle School to the girls at the Varsity level.
Please turn in a COPY of your physical so you can retain the original. Phyical forms are NOT returned.
Game Times: Game times usually vary by age. Normally the younger groups, Instructional, go first in the day, an approximate start time of 9:00 am or 10:00 am. The Varsity level could start as early as 4:00 pm and possibly as late as 9:00 pm. There are seven games played every Saturday at our “Home Field” so game times can vary. Games after dark are played with field lights on. Maps are available for all of the away fields.
Practices: Practices will begin the first week in August. Varsity - up to 15 hours of practice, JV - up to 12 hours of practice, Freshman - up to 10 hours of practice, and Instructional - up to 6 hours of practice per week, Monday thru Saturday before school starts. Once the school-year begins, all teams are limited to practicing up to 6 hours a week. Also, there could be an extra practice the week before Invitational. Practices are mandatory as this is a team sport and many of the skills and routines learned require all the girls to be present. Please discuss any conflicts you may have with your coach prior to the season starting. Most practices are outside, once the weather changes they sometimes move inside one of the school gyms.
Teams: Currently all of the Hartland teams are both a Cheer and a Pom squad or a “DUO” squad. At the Cheer portion of the practice your daughter will concentrate mostly on Cheers and Chants. Tumbling, Gymnastics and Stunting may also be a part of the girl’s routines. Also, during 1/2 time, their team will perform a longer more developed Cheer. During Pom practices they will concentrate on a 1/2 time routine dance for at the games and Invitational performance. Once you are placed on a team you are considered "Colored" for the remainder of your HAYAA career. ALL New players will be placed on a team by a "draft" before the season begins.
Invitational: Currently our Livingston County Cheer/Pom League hosts a Competition each year. The hosting of this event rotated among all the leagues in our group. This gives the girls in Varsity, JV & Freshman a chance to compete with other teams in the surrounding communities. Instructional level also attends Invitational, performs their routine and receives a participation medal. Hartland hosted this event in 2004 at the New Hartland High School. It generated a lot of fun and funds for our program.
Information on the 2010 Invitational with be posted as the season progresses.
Operating Board: Our program is managed by an operating board consisting of: Head Commissioner, Color Commissioners, Secretary, Treasurer, Merchandise Manager and a Equipment Manager and Website Administrator. Other non-voting positions can be added to assist with current program needs. Elections can be held if more than one person would like a certain board position. We are always in need of volunteers, if you would like to help with the running of our program please contact a current Board Member. Remember many hands make light work!!!!!
Coaching Staff: Each team has a Head Coach, Assistant coach(es), High School Cheer and Pom members and a Team Mom and/or Dad. All coaches must submit a coaching application for any coaching position and be approved through the HAYAA Cheer/Pom Board. The coaching staff is also required to be CPR certified. Certification is offered through arrangements with the Board. Our coaching staff is monitored and mentored by each Color Commissioner. If you are interested in coaching a HAYAA team please visit www.hayaasports.com for our coaching application and follow the directions for mailing. We will begin interviewing for coaches soon.
Volunteer Time: Every HAYAA program is run soley by our generous volunteers. This is a great opportunity to get to know the families on your child’s team and meet new families in our community. Also volunteering is a wonderful way to demonstrate to your child how important it is to support their team with a positive attitude. Now, the most important reason, we cannot not operate our program without you, our VOLUNTEERS.
Each Cheer/Pom family will be required to volunteer for Eagle Opportunities during Home Games. For Cheer/Pom the Eagle Opportunities include Merchandise Table, 50/50 Ticket Raffle, and trash collection. If you have Football players and Pom/Cheerleaders, you will need to volunteer time for each team and each child. The Cheer/Pom and Football program are separate programs and do not combine their volunteer opportunities. Eagle Opportunity hours depend solely on the number of HOME games your team plays. You may be asked to volunteer for 4 slots during the season per player on the team, or as many as needed.
In the event a family refuses their volunteer responsibilities, or neglects to turn in the Cheer/Pom Uniform, the family’s $200.00 Volunteer/ Uniform deposit check may be cashed by our Treasurer. In the event the family is unable to work their scheduled volunteer time, they are required to find a replacement (another parent for example), and inform the coach so the Color Commissioner and Secretary can be notified in a timely manner. If you have any questions, please review the Registration Form which describes this is more detail. A copy of the form, is located under downloads.)
We know it is a big commitment, but your time at each volunteer hour assigned to you is VERY MUCH APPRECIATED! Thank you so much for accepting your volunteer responsibilities with respect and class. We know you'll enjoy getting to know all of the families better with each of your volunteer assigned hour. Thanks to all our HAYAA Cheer/Pom Families for your help and support in making our program one of the best around!
